Great accommodation in the heart of the Chilterns, perfect for walking, cycling and sightseeing.
Undoubtedly, one of the best things about the Peacock is its beautiful, peaceful rural location. Tucked away at the end of a narrow country lane, surrounded by fields and the Chiltern Hills which in 1965 were designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, our country inn offers a true respite from fast-paced city living.
Whether you want to enjoy some of the many spectacular Chiltern walks on our doorstep, go cycling along the trails that criss-cross the picturesque Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire countryside, play 18 holes of golf, visit the Chinnor Steam Railway or take in the sights of nearby Oxford, the Peacock can offer you the perfect base from which to explore.
There are also many fantastic National Trust properties close by: the magnificent house and grounds of Waddesdon Manor, built in the style of a French chateau; West Wycombe Village, with its centuries-old buildings; Hughenden Manor, the impressive Victorian home of Benjamin Disraeli; and the ancient woodlands of the Ashridge Estate.
For families, the children will love the Bekonskot Model Villagein Beaconsfield and the Hell Fire Caves in West Wycombe; there are also great woodland playgrounds at both Wendover Woods and Waddesdon Manor– or book in advance and take them for a ‘day out’ with Thomas the Tank Engine, a life-size steam train that regularly frequents the Buckinghamshire Railway Centre.
From walking around fantastic National Trust properties such as Waddesdon Manor, to riding the steam railway at Chinnor, from antique shopping at the infamous Swan in Tetsworth to designer shopping at Bicester Village, from following the trail of the Midsomer Murders to following the children around Hell Fire Caves at West Wycombe, the area surrounding the Peacock offers an enormous variety of things to see and do.
Ask the Peacock team for directions to any of the local attractions during your stay.
