A Landscape That Invites You Out

The area around The Peacock opens up quietly. Footpaths lead into open fields, lanes drift between villages, and wider routes stretch toward hills, rivers, and historic towns. Some places are best reached on foot, others by bike or a short drive, but all share the same sense of space and rhythm. This is a part of the country where movement feels natural, whether that means a short wander after breakfast or a longer day out exploring what lies beyond the hedgerows.

Open Landscapes and Views

The surrounding countryside opens out into wide stretches of land where views carry across fields, ridges, and valleys. Walking here often means moving through open space rather than enclosed routes, with moments to pause and take in the scale of the landscape. These areas suit those who enjoy steady walking, changing light, and the feeling of being properly outdoors.

Routes That Set the Pace

Several routes near the village follow clear lines through the countryside, linking open land, quiet lanes, and wider paths beyond. Former trackways, field-edge footpaths, and shared routes suit both walking and cycling, allowing steady movement without constant navigation. These routes are often chosen for longer stretches outdoors, where the focus stays on covering ground and letting the surroundings shape the rhythm of the journey.

Villages, Landmarks, and Small Discoveries

Exploring the area also brings quieter moments of interest. Nearby villages, historic markers, and viewpoints appear naturally along many routes, adding variety without the need to plan around them. These smaller discoveries often become part of a day out, creating a sense of place that comes from moving through the landscape rather than travelling between destinations.

Why Guests Return
to The Peacock

We booked this in at the last minute over a bank holiday and was not expecting it to be as good as it was. Our room had superb views of the Chiltern hills, but it was the food and service that was exceptional. Great value for money and will be booking this hotel again.
